Biography

Francisco Fontes has presented and recorded his music in some of the most important concert halls and festivals in Portugal, as well as internationally. Highlights in Portugal include the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Theatro Circo, Gnration, Teatro José Lúcio da Silva, Teatro das Figuras, and Teatro Aveirense. International venues include BOZAR, deSingel, Milton Court Concert Hall, NFM Wrocław, and PianoForte Chicago.

He has been awarded the SPA/Antena 2 Composition Prize and the António Fragoso Composition Prize, and has collaborated creatively on projects such as Traction – Opera Co-Creation for Social Transformation and FIO – Informal Opera Festival.

His diverse portfolio includes operas, orchestral works, chamber music, song, solo works, and electronic music. Francisco Fontes earned his undergraduate degree from the Lisbon School of Music and later completed a Master’s degree in Opera Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
