The baritone João Veiga (1843–1881) was born in Lisbon into a wealthy family of music lovers (he was the brother of the pianist and composer Visconde do Arneiro). He studied voice with Luís Cossoul and Angelo Frondoni.1
In 1866 or 1867, he traveled to Milan to further his studies with the renowned Giovanni Corsi, making his debut in the town of Intra on September 17, 1867, in Attila, with a positive reception.2
He subsequently joined several Italian opera companies, performing in theaters in Pisa, Trieste, Brescia, Turin, Lodi, Livorno, and Cremona, among others, until his unexpected death in March 1881.3
