Vicente was the name given to the ravens that inhabited Lisbon’s daily life, at the entrance of taverns and barbershops, in the towers of the Cathedral. Vicente is the patron saint of Lisbon, martyred in Valencia, whose body arrived on the Tagus accompanied from Sagres by two cormorants that never ceased to fly over his barge. Cabaret Vicente is a kind of chamber opera, the first work of musical theater about the enigmatic figure of Saint Vincent. On stage, an ensemble of singers, actors and musicians embody a “saintly cabaret,” made up of stories within history, hagiography and thaumaturgy, dramaturgy and irony and, let us not forget, music, both sacred and profane.
