Synopsis

Closely following the text of Borges’s short story La busca de Averroes, the spectacle Averroes “shows” the moment when Averroes translates Aristotle’s “tragedy” and reflects on the idea of mimesis (representation), a concept absent from Arab culture and which therefore seemed impossible to translate – at the same time that some children, right before him, play at pretending to be characters. The spectacle represented the very idea of representation through a process that included the use of reflected images of the audience and the stage.
