Ressonâncias climáticas: A sinfonia das esferas percussivas (Climatic Resonances: The Symphony of Percussive Spheres) unfolds as a sonic cartography of the world—a bridge between science and poetry, between the inner pulse of living beings and the invisible patterns that govern the universe. The work opens as a field of vibrations, where each percussive gesture is not merely sound, but tangible matter—a meeting point between climate, body, and cosmos.
Organized in six parts, the piece develops as a sensory journey through the elements of nature and their modes of being: from the undulating serenity of the seas to the cadence of forests, from erratic winds to flames that consume and renew, from urban cacophony to the infinite beats of the universe. Each section is simultaneously an acoustic landscape, a spoken poem, and a field of images converging toward a single idea: existence is constant vibration, and everything is connected through a web of resonances.
In this percussive symphony, percussion—led by João Pedro Lourenço—becomes the heart and lungs of the musical space. Each instrument is a body, each strike a flame, each silence a potential tension. João Reis’s narration does more than describe what is seen or heard: it projects a reflective plane that connects microcosm and macrocosm, the trajectory of an animal and the rotation of galaxies.
Real-time granular processing—seamlessly integrated—transforms and expands the percussive gesture, extending each sound beyond itself, as if vibrations were echoing within the very fabric of matter. Video and lighting design shape an environment that oscillates between the intimate and the universal: ocean waves, dense forests, urban storms, primordial fire, and finally the vast star-filled expanse where the “Pulsar of the Stars” emerges.
This music theater work is not a linear narrative, but a flow of states—an evolving sonic organism in which each section becomes a metamorphosis of rhythm, and where music and the world recognize themselves as inseparable parts of the same symphony. At its conclusion, the work leaves a lingering question: if everything vibrates in resonance, what sound does the human act make when it chooses to transform the planet—or to preserve it?
