Eurico Carrapatoso was born in 1962 and is originally from Mirandela. He holds a degree in History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. He was an assistant in Economic and Social History at the Portucalense University.
He began his musical studies in 1985, having been a composition student of José Luís Borges Coelho, Fernando Lapa, Cândido Lima, and Constança Capdeville. He completed his higher education course in composition at the Conservatório Nacional with Jorge Peixinho in 1993. He has taught composition at several institutions, namely the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra. He has been a professor of composition at the Conservatório Nacional since 1989, serving as a permanent faculty member.
He founded and is a member of several composition prize juries: the Prémio 2ª Escola de Évora / Eborae Mvsica, the DARCOS International Composition Prize, the Jorge Peixinho Prize, and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores Prize.
He regularly receives commissions from national and foreign cultural institutions, and his music has been performed, published, and disseminated since 1992 in Europe and other continents. He represented Portugal three times at the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers in Paris with the works Cinco melodias em forma de Montemel (1998), Deploração sobre a morte de Jorge Peixinho (1999), and O meu poemário infantil (2006).
